Distributing your movie

There are many ways to distribute your movie, and even a low budget movie can become big – take for example Paranormal Activity – a small, low-budget movie that had a good idea, sparked some buzz, and got their movie out there.  So, how do you do it?  How to you market and distribute your movie?

  • Youtube – Youtube is a great source to get an immediate audience for a film you’ve created.  Accounts are free, and viewers are on youtube 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, looking for things to watch.  One catch:  the length of the film is limited on youtube.  Many youtubers have taken to dividing their movies into smaller parts to get the whole film up.  By labeling your movie “Part 1 of xx” “Part 2 of xx”, you can easily get your whole film up.
  • Netflix – You can actually get a company like netflix to carry your film.  To find out how to get your film into netflix, visit their website and click on the “Submit a film” link.  Netflix highly encourages you to work with a distributor to get a film in with them.
  • Film Festivals – Another great way to market and distribute your film is by entering it in film festivals.  Some require a small entrance fee, others are free. Look for one that fits your budget.
